MYTHS ABOUT CERAMIC COATINGS
Posted by PETER PORZELACK on
I get asked a lot about Ceramics so since we do not sell it my views could be considered skewered but I have read a lot about ceramic coatings and myths.
I feel for the cost it is more theater than substance and that all different ceramic manufacturers are saying there product is different than the others just like car polish companies, and then are the so called grey areas and truths.
First you need a good polish before applying ceramic, it does not have any gloss or shine or feel.
Ceramic coated vehicle can be susceptible to water spots,
Ceramic coatings can fail. and do not last 10 to 15 years as some might tell you and they need to be topped up every 6 to 9 months again like a good wax.
Ceramic coating that have been correctly applied can help to resist scratches but is by no means scratch proof, so is as a good polish.
You will not get the deep glow look and feel of a good car polish fact.
You will still need to wash your car as any waxed car.
The craziest thing i have read is a guy had a new car ceramic coated then vinyl wrapped it for more protection. Well that to me is crazy..
Last thing Ceramic coatings are not cheap..
The marketing not that the product cost more its the high visible theater marketing which ads significant costs to the product.
Best thing is too read and not be fooled by the theater and snazzy videos..
