GREAT AMERICAN AIR BATTLES Of World War 11 FOCUS ON FLIGHT 2 BOOKS
GREAT AMERICAN AIR BATTLES
Of World War 11
Published by Airlife Publsihing Ltd. – 1994 ( 154 pages )
American airmen fought many great battles during 1942 – 1945, none more so than in the Pacific and European Theatre of Operations.
Europe was considered the ‘ Big League ‘ in aerial warfare with American air forces based in Britain, North Africa and Italy and ranged against the Luftwaffe.
A high price was paid as the US Army Air Forces went to war in daylight, often without escort duelling with the Axis over the battlefronts. There were great victories too – ‘ The Big Day ‘ in January 1945, when carrier-borne aircraft showed the world just what conventional American air power was capable of.
